Chapter 5

~Elliot~

“Well, is it done?” I jumped out of my chair as soon as Sersei popped back into existence in my office. And then I got a good look at her, and who was with her. “What the fuck happened to you? How are you bleeding?”

“It’s not my blood,” she grumbled.

“Why the fuck do you have Alysa’s sister with you?”

“What?”

“Eli? He’s your Elliot?”

Sersei’s brows furrowed as she looked between the two of us. “I’m loathe to admit this, but I’m soo confused right now.”

“Alysa, my ex? She’s Harper’s sister.”

Harper huffed, wrapping the blanket she had around her shoulders tighter around her body. “Step-sister. And more jailer than any real relation.”

“What?” Now I was just as confused as Sersei. “What the hell is going on here? Harper, are you okay?”

“Like you care.”

“What are you talking about? Of course I care.”

“Then why would you leave?”

“Okay,” Sersei interrupted. “You two obviously have some things to work out. I’m gonna go kill the bastard that did this. Might kill your ex on the way. And then I’ll be back. Kay, great. Bye.”

“Wait! Sersei! Damnit, the deal was no killing! Sersei!”

“Let her go,” Harper murmured, sinking down to the floor in the corner. “Those assholes deserve everything they get.”

Wrapping her arms around her legs, she rested her head on top of her knees and stared off into the distance.

“Harper,” I said softly, kneeling down to meet her eyes. “What happened? Why does Sersei want to kill so badly, and why did you say I left?”

Harper sighed. “She was better when you were around. To me and Melody. She said you left because of us, and that’s why you didn’t fight for full custody of Mel. She started dating this guy soon after, told me he was a photographer and he’d help me get more modeling gigs. Each one was worse than the last, and it was never about the modeling. They’d force me to have sex with them and laugh when I cried. They’d drug me so I couldn’t put up much of a fight but would be conscious through the whole thing. They’re monsters, and Alysa’s boyfriend is the worst, most frequent offender. He deserves to die. I’m glad Sersei chopped off his dick.”

“I’m sorry, she did what?”

“Yup. Shoved it in his mouth and slit his throat right after. She’s kinda my hero. I doubt he’s dead though. Monsters like that don’t just die.”

“Especially not when he’s a vampire,” I grumbled.

“So he’s like you?”

“I am nothing like that monster.”

“I know, I just mean, supernatural like you.”

“Only so far as us not being human.” I sighed and dropped my head into my hands. “This is such a cluster fuck.”

“You didn’t leave her, did you?”

“No, I didn’t. She left me. And then proceeded to brag that no judge in the world would ever give me primary custody of Melody. I did some research, and history said she was right. So I made sure I’d have my weekends with her and that she would never feel like I didn’t love her.
